Let's Talk About Mental Health
A hands-on training deck for suicide intervention and emotional first aid
What is it?
On the Line is a card deck designed to teach and strengthen suicide intervention skills. It started as an activity to help frontline professionals practice crisis intervention and is now in its First Edition.
The cards are inspired by, and best used to complement recognized suicide intervention training.
On the Line is at its First Edition stage, which can be preordered. Preordering supports the development of the deck.
On the Line makes it easier to help practice difficult conversations. Social workers and teachers to everyday people can learn how to hold space, de-escalate crisis, and support someone who may be thinking of suicide.
How It Works
The 54-card deck follows a five-phase model:
1. SCENE – Set the stage with a realistic crisis scenario.
2. SKILLS – Practice key techniques to connect, regulate, and validate.
3. SHIFT – Navigate curveballs that mirror real-life unpredictability.
4. SUPPORT – Explore safety planning and next steps.
COURAGE – Ask the hard questions: “Are you thinking about suicide?” This card is not numbered, as it can be used anytime after the Scene card!

Who's Behind It
Hi, I'm Kaleena Lawless. I'm a Sexual Violence Outreach worker for the Jade Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick. I designed this deck when I was working as a Crisis Intervener at Crossroads for Women. I'm trained in suicide intervention but I don't consider myself an expert. I saw a gap between training and real life situations, and want to make a positive impact on the world, and the individual.
